Case Studies

Due to DDA requirements, Camerbewell College of Arts had to install an external stair lift to assist students with disabilities getting up the stairs and into the building. We were approached to design a door solution that would enable the college to park the stair lift inside the building.

We designed a bespoke manual sliding door which is asymmetric (using a larger door leaf and a smaller door leaf). This allowed the stair lift running track to be incorporated within the door frame.

The gearing also had to be specially designed so that when in operation the smaller and larger door leaves travelled at different speeds whilst still achieving the correct opening and closing positions at the right time.

At the same time we installed an automatic double sliding door to assist the stair lift user with accessibility into the building.

The new entrance now makes the building much more welcoming and accessible to all who want to use the building.
